Yunjia Liu is Chinese-born guitarist, composer, singer and producer. Her music is deeply influenced by the philosophical ideas such as Minimalism, Taoism, Yin-Yang and the inspirations of Nature. Her multidisciplinary projects focus on theatre, dance, painting, and poetry. Her music style includes classical music, traditional Asian music, contemporary music, folk music, as well as free improvisatory music and electronic music. She has been giving concerts in Germany, France, Finland, Hungary, England, Australia, and China.
Liu studied Bachelor of Music (Classical Guitar) at the University of Melbourne, and Master of Music (Guitar Soloist and Composition) at University of Music Detmold in Germany. Since summer of 2020 she has lived in Southern Finland.
Yunjia Liu’s residency period in Ii was part of Northern AiR -residency network collaboration between KulttuuriKauppila and TaikaBox relating to the Oulu Dance Hack held between 7th and 11th of February in Oulu. As part of her residency Yunjia will hold a solo performance in Ii at the Nättepori Auditorium on Friday, February 25th at 5:30-6PM. The event included a discussion and a performance from her ongoing Ladies project exploring the role of women in society nowadays.
