Artists are selected annually for the KulttuuriKauppila residency programmes. The call for residency periods of 2020 is now closed. The call for residency periods of 2021 has been postponed to late 2020 due to the current COVID-19 situation.

Artists and arts sector professionals representing any field of art may apply for the KulttuuriKauppila residency programmes.

Applicants are requested to present a project for their stay at the residency. Please plan your project to relate to either one of our residency programmes: KK AiR is suitable for artists looking to focus on their own work, and KK AiC is suitable for artists who wish to work with the local communities.

The residency will be tailored for each artist or artist group according to their own project plan. We are happy to facilitate interaction with the local community and offer assistance with possible events (a maximum of one event/month). The duration of the stay can vary between one and six months.  On the application form, applicants can let us know about their interests, such as having an exhibition or hosting a masterclass.

The fully furnished residency space includes two private rooms (1–2 person beds) with a shared studio space and kitchen, making it comfortable for individual artists as well as artist groups. The rent depends on the number of members in the group.

The residency building is located far enough from traffic for peace and quiet, yet near enough to transportation that cultural events in Oulu can be reached conveniently.

The KulttuuriKauppila jury makes the selection of the residency artists. The selected applicants will be informed personally and the selections will be published on our website and social media channels.
