Zeynep Kaynar is a Turkish visual artist based in Tampere, Finland. Her multidisciplinary artistic production focuses on themes of human & city and human & nature relationships in the form of photography, painting, drawings, and installations.
Kaynar has graduated from Sabanci University with a MA in Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design. In 2020 she moved to Tampere to study lifelong learning and education at the Faculty of Education and Culture at Tampere University. Her work has been exhibited in Finland and abroad, and her next solo show will open in Gallery Uusi Kipinä in Lahti at the end of March.
Aside from her fine art studio career, Kaynar has worked in the arts and culture industry as well as in the higher education sector as a project manager, teacher and coordinator. Her interest in language originates from previous art history and theory and visual culture studies, and her current research in educational sciences further supported her passion for elaborating on the social-cultural property of visual language in daily life.
In her Sleeping: A Performative Process (SAPP) series, Kaynar combines artistic research methodology with socio-cultural learning theory to study daily routines and sleeping habits. Her attitude towards adapting abstract visual language to depict this artwork series aligns with similar thought processes for learning a new language from scratch. Kaynar studies visual data in her studio practice to establish a structural method for abstract visual language with similar approaches to learning a language to communicate and maintain daily tasks.
