Visual artist Kyösti Pärkinen arrived into the midst of the northern summer. In his own words he had been travelling towards the light of the north – the light he had seen in paintings and images. During his residency Pärkinen sensed, lived and observed the local environment and recorded and interpreted these impressions in his art. In his works he depicts the flow of forces in nature.
In Ii Pärkinen roamed the landscape on his bike, getting to know the roads and trails of the area, especially around Iijoki river. “Ny senses are conflicted – every beautiful scenery also reveals the destructive forces of man-made built environment.”
Pärkinen has graduated from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts. His works are found in collections of Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki Art Museum HAM and Espoo Museum of Modern rt EMMA.
Kyösti Pärkinen will held an artist-talk on Saturday June 28th 4PM in the residency space in KulttuuriKauppila Art Center.
