Faces of the Space

Miia Kettunen worked in Pudasjärvi with mental health customers from Ruskapirtti and Osviitta

During her social art residency period Miia Kettunen worked in Pudasjärvi with mental health customers from Ruskapirtti and Osviitta. The aim was to create an artwork ensemble called Face of the Space. Single artworks of the ensemble were born using object and accessory art. The participants chose locations that are familiar to their everyday life. At the Pudasjärvi library a colourful granny greets the visitors, and at the Puikkari swimming hall the faces reflect the different emotions that can arise from swimming.

Miia Kettunen
Miia Kettunen has a versatile experience on working with different projects of art as a costume designer and in recent years as a visual artist working with different communities. Distinguishing feature of her way of working is the distinct and open-minded working plans, which engage different local operational environments and invite their communities to participate in artistic processes. The visual outcome of her work builds often up as a result of the interaction with people and different operators and with sensing the environment, spaces and different places. Her latest work include Skogens dans -relief which was done in a residency period in Hylte (SE) with local art students and Meet -art based service pilot for travellers and locals on which she created locality themed visual
experience service idea by juxtaposing abstract imagery and photography.
