Since 2018 the Celebration of Light has lightened up Ii and its parks and public spaces. We celebrate light during the national week of Mental Health from November 17th to 23th. During that time there will be light art, workshops and community art projects happening in Ii.

The Celebration of Light is organised by the Municipality of Ii together with local co-operation partners and cultural producers.
The event is part of Oulu2026 -preprogram Glowember, when our area is filled with the brilliance of lights and colours during the darkest time of the year.

Wieslawa Nowicka: The Light Only Wakes Up at Night
Opening event Wednesday 19th of November at 5 pm in the KulttuuriKauppila showroom, Kauppilantie 15.
Memory of Hands
Visual artist and innovation & design engineer Rebecca Magyar, together with the 8th-grade elective art students from Valtari School, have brought new life to old materials through the use of light. The installations are crafted by repurposing discarded materials collected from the school. By focusing on the creative process and using intuition as a guide in their work, the project aims to reimagine the future by remembering the past.

The Light Only Wakes Up at Night
KulttuuriKauppila’s artist-in-residence Wieslawa Nowicka’s installation consists of video projections and the play of light and shadow. The theme of the art work is the forest and its mythical spirits.

Lights of the Workers’ Hall

Architecturally, culturally, and historically significant, and an important part of the village landscape, the Workers’ Hall—completed in 1915—will be illuminated in the evening twilight as part of the Celebration of Light in Ii 2025.
The lighting is carried out by KulttuuriKauppila and Scene Arts.
