Henn, Gustafsson, Illjana: The Obelisk Saw
The Obelisk Saw is a site -spesific performance that celebrates the post -industrial landscape in Northern Finland. The work asks, if we can redefine the locations of industrial production into new communal sites of communication and belonging. With lighting, music and performance the work gives voice to the oldest steam saw mill in Finland and highlights the historical pipe.
The work centers on the question of “What do you believe in”.
Basti Kuhz: Koneesta koneeseen (From Machine to Machine)
In 1860, the first steam saw “Gestilä Ångsågverk” of Finland started operations and it was in use until 1908. Daily, up to 150 tree trunks were cut. This time is only remembered by the pipe and the leftovers of the building’s foundation. During the Koneesta Koneeseen -ääniteos, the audience will travel into a future scenario and imagine together: Can the process of cutting be seen as an act of sharing and not an act of taking something away. What could be the future of Alaranta and can we build it anew?
