The Culture Cradle of the Year is a municipality or city that has developed its cultural activities in a significant way and is larger in size thanks to culture. The municipality or city has invested in accessibility, which brings culture closer to people and takes care of its creators and their operating conditions.
The municipality of Ii is one of the 3 candidates with the municipality’s art program. The other two candidates are Kaustinen (Kaustisen folk music) and Inari (Sámi culture).
Ii municipality’s art program guides public art acquisitions in the municipality. The implementation of the program increases the comfort of the living environment and the vitality of the municipality with the help of art. Through the program, art and events involving all municipal residents are created all over town and scenic locations.
“Ii municipality’s long-term work in the field of art and culture is now being recognized. We are really proud of the nomination. It is good to continue the impressive work for cultural well-being in the municipality.” says municipal manager Marjukka Manninen.
The awards will be announced at the Culture Gala in Tampere on November 24. The gala pays attention to Finnish culture in a wide area and the purpose is to reward actions, works and authors that bring something new, original or important to the table.
