How can art approach the issue of air? How can its interconnected immateriality be communicated using the methods of art? How can we ‘look’ at air, and what will we see when we turn our attention to it?
The artists of Art Ii Biennial are selected through open call and invites from the curatorial team. The 2022 Biennial is co-curated by artists Minna Rainio and Mark Roberts and producer Jetta Huttunen.
The multi-faceted event will present works that explore these issues, offering new thoughts, expressions, and perceptions, and finding ways to give sensory presence to the invisible. Art Ii Biennial is particularly interested in works and artists that combine art and science and consider sustainability in their practices.
The call for entries is open for artists living and working in Finland or abroad. Production and travel costs are covered up to 2200 euros in total per selected project against an invoice from the artists. The artworks will be presented at the Art Ii Biennial between 15 – 19 June 2022. Accommodation is offered in Ii during the Biennial.
The event is produced sustainably. Artworks that are executed with a low carbon footprint are welcomed, and artists and visitors are encouraged to arrive by bus, train or boat.
The call for entries is open until 31.1.2022 at www.artii.fi/apply. The selections will be announced in March 2022.
Art Ii Biennial is organized by KulttuuriKauppila Art Centre.
