Yuko Kinouchi KKAiR 11-12/2019

Video performances of Tokio-based artist Yuko Kinouchi focus on the northern country's rural environment and culture.

Our residency artist for November-December, Yuko Kinouchi is a visual artist based in Tokyo.

She uses painting, video, performing and installation as a fiction or document of experimental action through sociological and local environment research. Her current project is focused on output as abstract action, through recording multiple screen videos of dialogue and abstract performance. The project explores relation with actors, and aims to evoke the new possibilities of this world between the individual and social issues, and narrative and reality.

Kinouchi graduated from the Tama Art University in Tokyo. Her works explore and study ways of building a relationship between action and place, and at the same time, experimenting to see if the action makes sense in our society. Kinouchi extracts structures from what she observes in each area, and rebuilds them as a fiction or adds performances to make small changes to study how the circumstances surrounding our lives influence us.

During her residency period at KulttuuriKauppila, she will continue her exploration into narrative and reality through video performances, focusing on the northern country’s rural environment and culture.
