THE KOKRA FAMILY makes visual documentations of wonderment about what you are looking at and why in that specific configuration. The visual narrative power of an inventory made the collective to look into different material assemblages. By researching different contexts they want to explore the relation between families, peoples circumstances and their material culture. This is part of their continuous project where they research the family through their material culture.
From 2013 onwards line kramer and marjolijn kok formed the artist’s collective THE KOKRA FAMILY. This family developed from a long queer relationship. One of their goals is researching the concept of family in all its facets trough critical art works. They see family as a broad concept and lately they have been focusing on the material aspects. In their work no artistic medium is avoided and humour and respect are valued. In 2015 both members of the family have developed their own work on residencies abroad. The urge to work together became, however more clear and in 2016 they transformed their individual studios into a shared workspace. In the spring of 2017 they researched the workshop and small museum of a Swiss shoe-maker who had passed, on behalf of his family. It led to the publication Inventory 1: Frick. THE KOKRA FAMILY will investigate their own material conditions as a self-funded project on a continuous basis.
During their stay at the KulttuuriKauppila AiR THE KOKRA FAMILY will study a warehouse of a family living in Ii. The artist’s present the work at the artist talk on thursday 26.6. at 17-18 at the Ii library. The talk will be in English. Free admission, welcome!
