We are excited to announce the upcoming exhibition “Metsätähti”, featuring artists in residence Lê Quyên Nguyễn (@quyny) and Sebastian Kuhz (@realbastikuhz). After a month at @kulttuurikauppila, they have created an innovative body of work that will be presented on the 29th of March at @cafekonstantiina. This multisensory joint exhibition blends photography and soundscapes, inviting visitors to explore the extraordinary within the ordinary.
Metsätähti delves into the quiet contradictions of Ii, a town nestled in the north, shaped by long winters and endless snow. While operating on 85% renewable energy and serving as a vision of the future, Ii’s appearance feels retro and frozen in time, creating a unique blend of progressiveness and nostalgia.
As life flows with the changing seasons, rivers transform into roads, and the aurora flickers like a pulse in the night. The residents, deeply connected to their environment, adapt with quiet resilience while actively shaping their community. In this landscape, even the simplest moments – stars tangled in bare branches or breath visible and then gone – acquire a dreamlike quality.
Bringing sound into this visual narrative, Sebastian Kuhz has recorded the textures of Ii – splashes of people jumping into ice baths, the rhythmic crunch of footsteps on fresh snow – and transformed them into a live music performance. The result is an immersive experience that captures both the stillness and movement of a town suspended between innovation and heritage.
