For the first time in Ii, we will celebrate arts and culture in a unique festival. 

Evenings of Art & Culture 17th to 18th August in Ii

For the first time in Ii, we will celebrate arts and culture in a unique festival.  The venues include KulttuuriKauppila Art Centre, Kuivaniemi Library and Taitotalo. The event is organised together with Oulun Muusajuhlat and Ii library.

The festival will present art, music and literature from Finland and abroad.

 

17th August  

Kari Väänänen    //   Taitotalo, Seurakuja 8, 5pm.  Kuivaniemi library 7pm

Kari Väänänen is one of Finlands’ most beloved actors, known ie. from his roles in the Kaurismäki movies. His colourful life is now documented in a memoir, which Vänä will present and read to us.

18th August

Risto Isomäki ja Kim Leine  //  KulttuuriKauppila Art Centre, 5-7 pm, Kauppilantie 15

Writer Risto Isomäki has written several novels dealing with climate change inflicted future ie. The Sands of Sarasvati. He is also an environmental activist and has now written his memoir (Memoir of a Do-gooder).

Danish-Norvegian writer Kim Leine won the Nordic Council literary prize in 2013 for his novel The Prophets of Eternal Fjord. It is an astonishing epic ventures on a hallucinatory journey into the frozen heart of Denmark’s colonial darkness. His other books include The Colony of Good Hope, Afgrunden and Kalak.

Anniina Lehtinen  //  KulttuuriKauppila Art Centre, 7 pm

Anniina Lehtinen is KulttuuriKauppilas residency artist in August. She is a musician and composer who performes with a piano and accompanied with video projections. Her music combines classical elements, experimental voice and contemporary sounds.

Väisänen is a folk singer with an easy attitude towards life and death.

Ville Leinonen  //  KulttuuriKauppila Art Centre, 9 pm.

Ville Leinonen is a finnish singer-song writer who is best known for his popsongs and versions of Finnish schlagers. His music is soft and nostalgic and his performances create a dreamlike atmosphere.

Sequel of the Evenings of Art & Culture  //  Taitotalo, Seurakuja 8, 6pm

Latoteatteri performs their popular play called Testament in honor of the Evenings of Art & Culture.
